Unfortunately the word refugee doesn’t connect as it should anymore, it has developed a stigma of less than, of second-class. That, and politics are blinding people from seeing it for what it really is, from seeing the humanity.
Refugee, a person just like you or me but with no choices or options left, someone who is fleeing for their life, someone who puts their life in grave danger just to survive, a brother, a sister, a friend in need.
I find this to be a powerful documentary that moves you and gives you a glimpse into what it means to be a Syrian refugee.
A film by Matthew K. Firpo
As we’re all gearing up for the holidays, don’t take for granted how lucky and blessed you are. Hug your loved ones a little tighter. I also encourage you to support however you can, be it spreading awareness, writing to your alderman, volunteering with a local refugee support organization or donating money/resources. Be a friend. xo
