Estée Lauder Double Wear…double the slay

I’ve heard about Estée Lauder’s Double Wear foundation being the best out there but for some reason I never picked it up. I think because it’s been around for so long, I’ve just assumed it was old school and therefore wouldn’t be as good as the new formulas. Well I’m a grown woman and I can admit when I’m wrong, and I was so very wrong! This is something I should have picked up a long time ago. It is my new Holy Grail of foundations. My shade in Double Wear is Rich Mahogany and I’m wearing it here.

I don’t know what’s going on with my eyeliner, it’s one of those super skinny eyeliners by Revlon and I don’t quite have the hang of it yet, but hey make lemonade right?

What I love about Double Wear:

  • It does exactly as it says, it stays in place and it leaves a flawless, skin-like matte finish. It definitely doesn’t cake up or separate on your face.
  • It is very buildable, you can easily take it from medium to full coverage. Hint: If you want it lighter, mix with a little moisturizer
  • It is very long-wearing, lasts all day, 15+ hours
  • It has some SPF, it’s only a 10 but it’s appreciated. This is enough if your moisturizer has an SPF 20 or more. (You should always moisturize before wearing any foundation)
  • It comes in 37 shades which is so awesome, especially for darker skins tones, considering most make up brands usually don’t think about anyone darker than a caramel brown, like say Kerry Washington, and we know there’s a whole range of people darker than that. Hello makeup brands, We exist!
  • This is the foundation to reach for when you want to slay your enemies and their future generations haha
  • The only con is that it doesn’t come with a pump so you can easily spill some or end up using too much. What I’ve done is use one of my other old foundation pumps with it. I had an old bottle of Perricone MD foundation and its pump fits perfectly. I hear the MAC Cosmetics foundation pumps also work well.

The Runners-up:

I’ve tried different foundations over the years and here are my runners-up and why they are great.

  • Giorgio Armani Maestro, my shade is 12: This is like butter, in that it makes your skin look flawless. It is a light coverage foundation and has a matte/natural finish. This is one that I love for all seasons and it’s perfect for that ‘no makeup makeup’ look. I always get compliments on my skin when I wear this and no one believes I’m wearing foundation when I mention it. A con is that because it’s so light coverage it’s not as long lasting. The Maestro shade range also isn’t as extensive, comes in 16 shades, so for my women of colour, it might be tough to find a shade that works for you. Also this isn’t one that I would recommend if you have acne scars or blemishes as it is not really buildable, it is true sheer coverage foundation.

  • YSL Teint Touche Éclat: This is a medium coverage foundation and for those that love a dewy radiant finish. It give you a luminous glow and it makes it look like your skin is lit from within. This is a great summer foundation. Though If you have very oily skin, I don’t think this is for you. I have normal/dry combination skin and I found I had a blot once or twice throughout a 10 hour day. It comes in 19 shades but since the recent formula update, my shade, B90, has been discounted – bummer.

  • Becca Ultimate Coverage Complexion Creme: This is exactly as it sounds, it is the fullest of coverages, there is no chill, it goes from 0 to 100. This is for those who like the full coverage look and/or have hyper-pigmentation, blemishes or acne scars. I recommend this for a full glam look. It is also a creme consistency and a little goes a long way. It has a natural finish. Becca is also great at catering to a wide range of skin tones. This foundation comes in 20 shades, I wear Mahogany.

Have you tried any of these? What are your favourites? Next time you’re at your local Sephora or department store be sure to ask for samples!
